O’Brien Icehouse

Client Kane Construction Completion Date February 2010

O’Brien Icehouse, formerly Medibank Icehouse, a Melbourne iconic landmark, forms part of AIC’s extensive portfolio. A $58 million world class facility, it boasts one of the first dual-rink facilities in Australia and features two Olympic size ice rinks to cater for ice sports – figure skating, short track speed skating, ice hockey and curling – as well as recreational skaters. Grandstand seating for 1,000 spectators, a café, bar, skater’s lounge, skater dressing rooms, gymnasium and specialist sports medicine clinic make this a world class training and competition facility and are key reasons why the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWIA) relocated its training programs and administration to the Icehouse.

AIC were engaged to produce a super flat floor to meet the highest standards required for Olympic grade ice skating rinks. Laser screeding and enormous care was taken to produce a floor at world class standards.
